Supplier of Turned Parts since 50 Years

It was to produce the axes and cannon pinions used in watch manufacture that cousins Gérard and Marcel Zwahlen originally founded their own company in Bévilard in the bernese Jura region of Switzerland in 1974.

Ronda's newest subsidiary, Zwahlen SA in Court, produces turned parts for the watch industry.

The small family business has developed steadily over the years, and currently employs nearly 30 personnel, in particular several highly-trained automatic setters or “décolleteurs” The company today produces a wide range of turned parts and pinions for the watch manufacturing sector.

For strategic reasons – with the aim of building in-house capacities in the field of décolletage and expanding its expertise – Ronda took over its long-standing supplier and partner in 2007. The group’s most recent branch is based in Court and is currently managed ad interim by Ronda COO Aglaia Lüthy.

History

Garage beginnings

The Zwahlen company was founded by cousins Gérard and Marcel Zwahlen in 1974. The partners started by installing a handful of machines in the family garage, before moving to their first bigger premises in 1978.

In 1983 the company relocated again to the former Oris building in Malleray, which enabled it to add substantially to its machinery range.

The Bévilard years

It soon outgrew these premises, too, though. So the cousins decided to build their own new production facility, between Sorvillier and Bévilard, in 1987.

This was also the year that Gérard’s son Serge Zwahlen joined the company workforce. Four years later he became a shareholder as well.

A new home in Court

The company was acquired by Lausen-based Ronda AG in 2007. And a few months later its operations were moved to a larger manufacturing plant. The new start in Court took place in February 2008 with 68 machines; the current number is 130, including 14 CNC machines.

In 2007 Ronda AG took over Zwahlen SA and a few months later transferred it to a larger production building at Court.
