Solartech movements are available in six version.
What is a gearbox?
Gearboxes are electromagnetic micromotors. Ronda has developed them to meet the needs of watch manufacturers who produce smart connected timepieces such as hybrid smartwatches or connected watches that combine analog and smart functions.
However, our micromotors can also be used outside the watch industry for applications requiring a step-by-step drive.
What is the difference between the gearbox and a movement?
When a watch manufacturer produces analog timepieces, Ronda supplies the movement, the heart that both physically sets their watches in motion and contains all the desired functions. These are operated either by the stem, pushers or correctors. The selected movement also significantly determines the design of the watch through the predetermined arrangement of its functions.
In a hybrid smartwatch, a micromotor – the gearbox – drives the analog hands. In addition, a control unit is required that controls the freely definable smart functions. All functions can then be controlled via app. The design of the control system requires the services of a third partner.
Concept of gearboxes for hybrid smartwatches
In hybrid smartwatches, the micromotors drive hands or discs independently and bidirectionally. The resolution is 1°, i.e. 360 steps per revolution.
Ronda's gearboxes are designed to accommodate – in a very small space as well as with low energy consumption – one or two drives. This enables a variety of multifunctional circular or sector displays for hybrid smartwatches. Both micromotors have a height of only 2.20 mm and are offered in solid metal design.
